Sterling silver Ulbster Stone Brooch

£550.00

Hand crafted thick Sterling silver brooch.

The knotwork is a variation of the Pictish Ulbster stone in Caithness.

Made in the same ancient methods and tools, this starts as a sheet of silver that I set in a sticky mixture called pitch. Then the design is drawn and beaten into the sheet using only hand tools and heat, this process is repeated many times to raise out and push down the metal in various places to complete the design.

The stone shown is Tourmaline, but I can set any stone of your choice if you contact me beforehand.

Hallmarked in Edinburgh
